OECD Expects FDI Flows to Decline in 2008

According to the latest issue of Investment News published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), multinationals based in its thirty mostly industrialized member countries investment over US$1.8 trillion abroad in 2007, a record level. For 2008, however, OECD predicts a sharp decline of around 37 percent. Evidence to support this is the sharp slowdown in cross border mergers and acquisitions, which have been hit by the recent credit crunch. FDI flows to developing countries could decline by as much as 40 percent this year from their record level of nearly US$500 billion in 2007.
